SMART Launches Next-Generation Sympodium Interactive Lectern

Multimedia presentation tool is ideal for large audiences

Calgary, AB – March 24, 2004 – SMART Technologies Inc. announces the new Sympodium™ L250 interactive lectern, a next-generation multimedia presentation unit with an integrated, pen-enabled LCD screen that is ideal for presenting in lecture halls, auditoriums and conference centers. The L250’s sturdy frame provides mobility, security, flexibility, durability and cable management. The L250’s interactive features include a Sympodium interactive pen display (mounted on an adjustable arm), a multimedia switch and SMART Board™ software.

With the L250, presenters can use the interactive pen display to control and write over computer-based material. A projector connected to the L250 displays the information on a larger screen so audiences can easily follow along. The multimedia switch can be used to shift between sources, such as an internal computer, laptop computer or document camera. The L250 features all the interactive functions and digital ink capabilities of the SMART Board interactive whiteboard, SMART’s flagship product, and offers all of the robust functionality that customers have come to expect from SMART products.

“The Sympodium L250 interactive lectern gives presenters convenient access to the technology tools and content they need to comfortably and effectively engage large audiences,” says Nancy Knowlton, president and co-CEO of SMART. “It is a cost-effective alternative to custom-designed lecterns.”

Main Features

Lectern: Only 29" (73.7 cm) wide, the mobile lectern fits through a standard doorway. Lockable casters make it easy to move and secure in place. The lectern includes a sliding keyboard shelf, a privacy panel and an easily accessible equipment drawer for a document camera or scanner.

The L250 also features a flat surface for a laptop or binder, two large storage spaces for a computer and other equipment, space to connect a microphone and a standard 19" (48.3-cm) rack with six rack mounts. Cable raceways allow hassle-free cable installation, maintenance, storage and access. A concealable connection panel includes data, audio and video connections for external peripherals. Locking doors on the front and back make multimedia integration easy and secure.

Interactive pen display: Presenters simply touch the interactive LCD screen with the battery-free, tethered pen to control computer applications, write over any application in digital ink, record audio and data, and write over moving or still video. The pen-tool buttons make it easy to change pen colors or erase, and function buttons provide quick, convenient access to SMART Board software and features such as the on-screen keyboard, floating tools and screen capture tool.

The interactive pen display attaches to the lectern with an adjustable mounting arm so the console can be angled for optimal writing and viewing comfort.

X-Port 40 USB switch: The X-Port 40 USB switch controls data (USB), audio and video (RGB) for up to four peripherals. To alternate between devices, presenters press a button on the control panel.
